11/30/07 Edit - Greetings 2007 Holiday season arrivals! Check out the Office Max Elf Yourself website here. Changes for 2007 include the ability to Elf yourself AND three other people - which makes for some sweet synchronized dance moves. In 2006 this viral hit racked up over 40 million views, 11 million elves and kept us "glued to the site" for a combined total of 600 years (Should we feel sad?), by the looks of it, 2007 is off to an strong start. Leave a comment, or just go Elf Yourself and get it over with.
After
dissecting the Office Depot "Dead Hand" versus the Staples "Easy Button"
last week, I feel obligated to pay homage to the undisputed leader in
office supply buzz branding. (Who knew this award existed??)
The winner of this contest is clearly, and indisputably, Office Max's wildly successful Elf Yourself website, which according to AdAge received over 36 million hits in just five weeks - besting Burger King's Subservient Chicken (19 million in one year) and CareerBuilder's Monk-E-mail (9 million in eight months) - both of which are continuously held up as the benchmark for viral success. I am proud to report that one of those 36 million people was yours truly, who used the Elf Yourself feature to make my Christmas Card.
The site helped contribute to a 20% increase in holiday traffic to Office Max's website. Office Max will seek to duplicate the success of Elf Yourself with another venture later this year. (Just don't use the dead hand guys!)
How can I get info to send elf card? It is so funny. My sis in law sent to me, and I watch every day to get a laugh. Thanks

And for better or worse, the outcome of the global recession will be closer regulation of the world's economic and financial systems, for years to come.
