Props to Samantha from Bad Ass Ideas, who despite hating ketchup always seems to send me the best stuff - like the link to Talk To The Plant, a social media effort from Heinz - Sweden.
Talk to Plant is based on a simple premise - that plants spoken to grow faster and taller than plants that are not. And that testing this theory on a tomato vine will definitively prove that Heinz grows the best ketchup. This logic sounds exactly right to me.
You can be a part of this experiment by visiting the site and typing in your own words of enthusiasm. (Tag cloud of messages sent so far at left.) Your message is then translated via voice synthesis and read to the test plant. To date over 15,000 messages have been sent to the plant.
The Talk To the Plant - Behind The Scenes Blog provides a great play by play of the project complete with time lapse videos, rig rebuilding efforts as the plant grows, efforts at controlling artificial light (as Sweden is pitch black this time of year) as well as sample messages sent by fans comme moi. My faves include, "I want to feel your body Mr. Ketchup", "dance plant dance", and message 10,000 which was "everbody if you can, do the Bartman, shake your body, if you can turn it out man."
Very cool effort from Heinz (slash their Swedish agency Daddy.)
