Thanks to my BFF Katie for passing along What Claudia Wore, a blog dedicated to tracking what Claudia, of The Babysitters Club, wore in various Babysitters Club books. I'd also like to thank God for the Long Tail that makes blogs like this possible. (Male readers, I implore you not to read on if I haven't already lost you.)
The blog features passages from BSC books describing Claudia's outfits, along with hilarious commentary from the blogger - and the occasional book cover or illustration (which are truly legen-wait for it-dary):
"At the moment I'm wearing lavender plaid cuffed pants with suspenders over a green shirt with buttons down the front, a matching lavender beret (and not just because I'm at my easel), and fleece-lined, high-top sneakers which I must admit are uncomfortably hot, but they look great. Also, I've got on earrings shaped like Christmas tree lights that actually blink on and off. I'm not sure why I chose to wear them, since it's nowhere near Christmas, but I love jewelry, like to make my own sometimes, and have pierced ears." Yes, I thought that outfits like this were ultra cool back when I read BSC books circa 1987.
Before I moved on to Sweet Valley High, The Babysitters Club was like my favorite book series, ever. I read every single one and lived for the "Super Special" editions. The one where they took the Disney Cruise was totally my favorite - I probably read it 25 times. Once when I was eight, I called the BSC number during the Club's meeting hours - someone really angry picked up and I slammed down the phone (thank god for the dark ages with no caller ID.)
My friends and I would always talk about who was who in the book. I always wanted to be Stacy (who was trendy and from NYC) or Dawn (who was the "California Girl") but really deep down I knew I was Kristy (the marginally bitchy, type-A control freak President.) Such is life.
I loved the Disney World Super Special too! I used to read my BSC in my textbooks at school. The teachers weren't quite sure what to do with me since I was reading (can't discourage that), but also not paying attention in class. On a side note--looking forward to starting work on Monday. Virginia told me you'd be showing me the ropes :-)

I'm seriously considering going out to buy it - I'll be it's just as good as I remember (ha!)
I was totally there with you reading, I read all the time.
Can't wait for you to start either, definitely looking forward to having you onboard.

Your idea is totally awesome! Maybe I could try calling them...(laughs). I like it too. I also read Sweet Valley High but I like the BSC more. I guess I'm like Claudia--artsy but eats junkfoods. By the way, I'm Dominique Clarabal from the Philippines.

I love Baby-sitters Island Adventure. Hey, don't you think Jamie Newton is cute? Even though you can't see him, you can picture in your mind that he's cute.

Behind each of strenuous efforts, there must be double the reward.
