Facebook [insert witty play on words here]
- Facebook loses face over force-fed updates - Marketing Vox
- Facebook Gets Black Eye from Facelift Backlash - CNet
- Facebook's Makeover - Forbes
Ok, so all the clever post titles were already taken - but that
doesn't
change the fact that Facebook is under serious fire this
week. Thousands of users are protesting a new newsfeed
feature that allows users to instantly track any changes made to their
friends pages, calling the feature "stalker-ish".
Privacy concerns from users who voluntarily post craploads of information of themselves online aside, the new feature could have an impact on advertisers. Forbes reports that the new feature consolidates a significant amount of information onto one page, and could potentially lead to fewer page views per a user - which would ultimately hurt advertising revenue. Co-founder Mark Zukerberg is not concerned about negative impacts for advertisers (yet).
9/8/06 Update - After two days of furiously "coding" Facebook has updated the newsfeed feature to allow users to control what information gets sent to their "friends" feeds. Zuckerberg comments on his blog, "We really messed this one up."
